As part of spreading some of the global responsibility for geo-political order should the US push to expand the UN Security Council, and why not move beyond the global arrangement that might have partially reflected the immediate aftermath of World War II?

As a relic from that point in time the UN Security Council is comprised of the US, UK, France, Russia, and China; not exactly inclusive of the other major powers which help shoulder responsibility for world affairs nor reflective of the modern world powers. So why not look to some countries that have shown the ability and willingness to help chaperon world affairs in their neck of the woods and beyond?

I believe such a list should consider Japan, our former-enemy during WWII and ever since their defeat, US occupation, and re-emergence modeled in values and principles reflective of America a reliable partner in world affairs and good partner in economic trade, and clearly such a list would include India, the world’s largest nation and an emerging world economic power.

These are questions that need to be raised and a debate that our country should undertake.

The absence of India from the UN Security Council is a oversight that does not seem to be fair; nor one I suspect India will find tolerable as they continue to emerge as a potential superpower in their own right and a regional leader in a part of the world where the gap of international stability is creating worldwide threats for all the other major powers.

If President Obama sincerely wants to foster stronger relations aboard he should do it in a manner consistent with rewarding those countries which have been good actors aboard and important allies to the US.

For that reason putting forth Japan, India, Germany, South Africa, Turkey, and Brazil as permanent UN Security Council Members to better reflect and reward allied interests in global stability and security, regional hegemony, democratic values, and emerging multilateral powers in a multi-polar world would be a major initiative that the President should consider as such an initiative could help US interests aboard while helping to alleviate the burdens America has taken on in Afghanistan and Iraq along with the challenges of Iran, North Korea, and elsewhere in the War on Terrorism.

The more we can reduce our overburdened military and economy the better it will be for those men and women who have shown the patriotic courage to serve on the frontlines of our numerous national security hotspots. Beyond that, elevating the stature of those allies who share our values, interests, and security risks not only recognizes their sacrifices in our share struggles but further enlists and enables them to be assist in those efforts.

It should also not be lost on us that expanding the permanent membership states to include those countries would further enhances the prestige of the US in the eyes of many people the world over, but more importantly would enhances the influence of the US within the UN Security Council.

The only other question that needs to be asked is given those facts why is President Obama not affording the country that discussion and our friends and allies that opportunity? Let’s begin that national dialogue with President Obama’s upcoming State of the Union speech.

Hope you will tune into The Todd Klein Show this week; on AM580 weekday afternoons 4:00 to 6pm.

As we always try to do, we will have wide-ranging discussions.

We will be adding a new week in-review of sorts starting on Thursdays this along with our Tech-Tuesdays represent our continued changes to the program as the show nears its two year anniversary.

Still in the mix is our Mondays edition where we have a light-hearted look at various issues of the day and give away some prizes along with free hairs to Jerry’s Barber Shop as part of our sports trivia, and I am still proud to host one of the best Financial show around on Wednesday thanks to our wonderful panel.

Starting this Monday we are introducing a little less national politics that day and a little more local events, guests, and yes homegrown politics as well as hometown flare.

On our Tech-Tuesdays we something you won’t find many others doing as we will take up the issues of the day from a Medical, Scientific, and Technology focus.

Again, we hope to have you join us each weekday afternoon, and please share the news that we maybe only slightly more than year old but we are growing fast and always have a place for you the listener to be a part of the conversation.

We would love to have you call in at 745-5800 or check us out at toddkleinshow.com, and just like the show the site is new, even newer, and still developing as we create content and work to expand the features available online. And to answer some of the questions I have been getting: yes in the near future we will have podcasts available, and please drop us a line if there is a guest or topic you would like to recommend.

Also, if you are a candidate for office in the March Primaries please let us know if you would like to come onto the show.

Have a great day and hope to hear from you. Stay tuned for the launching of the online newsletter sometime in the not too distant future.

My very best wishes to you in the new year!

Sincerely,

Todd R. Klein

Hope you will tune into The Todd Klein Show this week; on AM580 weekday afternoons 4:30 to 6pm.
As we always try to do, we will have wide-ranging discussions.

Some upcoming highlights are today we will discuss the on-going Palin saga as well as an in the studio conversation with a former-drug dealer who is working to turn his life around.

On Wednesday we will discuss the economic arguments for legalizing industrial hemp as a crop to do just about everything from biodiesel and ethanol to blue jeans or breakfast cereal and more as well as partially conclude the healthcare debate begun last week.

And of course we are still developing our arts and entertainment Friday show with live in-studio musicians and a preview of the weekend events. In just a couple of weeks we will be adding a new week in-review of sorts starting on Thursdays along with our Medical and Techo-Thursdays.

Still in the mix is our fun Mondays edition where we have a light-hearted look at various issues of the day and give away some prizes along with free hairs to Jerry’s Barber Shop as part of our sports trivia, and I am still proud to host one of the best Financial show around on Wednesday thanks to our wonderful panel.

Starting this Tuesday we are introducing a little less national politics that day and a little more local events, guests, and yes homegrown politics as well as hometown flare.

Again, we hope to have you join us each weekday afternoon, and please share the news that we maybe only slightly more than year old but we are growing fast and always have a place for you the listener to be a part of the conversation.

We would love to have you call in at 745-5800 or check us out at toddkleinshow.com, and just like the show the site is new, even newer, and still developing as we create content and work to expand the feature online. And to answer some of the questions I have been getting: yes in the near future we will have podcasts available, and please drop us a line if there is a guest or topic you would like to recommend.

Have a great day and hope to hear from you. Stay tuned for the launching of the online newsletter some time in the not too distant future.
